BJP to stake claim for Delhi government
New Delhi: The BJP is reportedly all set to stake claim to forming the Delhi government within a week. A highly-placed source said soon after party MLAs elect their legislative leader, the BJP will stake claim.
There are clear indications that former Delhi finance minister Jagdish Mukhi will be the Chief Minister.
With three MLAs elected to the LS, the party and its allies are left with 29 MLAs in the 67-member House.
The BJP must show the support of 34 MLAs to prove its majority. Sources said six of the eight Congress MLAs are likely to support the BJP government. With the anti-defection law in place, these six may join the Akali Dal. They will then reportedly extend outside support to the BJP government.
As far as brining the Delhi police under the ambit of the city adm-inistration is concer-ned, there is a thinking going on in the political circles that the Centre may divide the police force in two units one to handle law and order under the control of the state and the other handling VVIP security to be under the purview of the Centre.
