Cash, passport of former TRS MP stolen

Cops suspect it could be the work of a local gang

Hyderabad: Two robbers stole Rs 90,000, a passport and other documents belonging to former TRS MP, Manda Jagannadham, at Abids on Monday.

The accused diverted the attention of Mr Jagannadham’s driver who was sitting in the car parked at a shopping centre. They pointed at a couple of Rs 10 notes on the ground and picked up a briefcase from the back seat while the driver’s attention was diverted. According to the driver, Srinivas Reddy, two unidentified men on a two- wheeler approached him and pointed out to a few Rs 10 notes on the ground.

“When he got down from the car and went to pick them up, another person opened the back door of the car and fled with the briefcase,” said D. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, detective sub-inspector, Abid Road police station. He added that though the driver tried chasing them, he failed.

The briefcase contained documents, cash and a passport. Based on his complaint, a case was registered under Sections 420 (cheating) and 379 (theft) and is being investigated.

Cops suspect it could be the work of a local gang and said they were checking whether any surveillance cameras had captured the incident.
