Telangana to regularise contract employees

Telangana government plans to filter out Andhra Pradesh employees

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is all set to regularise the services of contract and outsourcing employees based on their nativity. Nearly 80,000 contract employees are working in 90 departments including the Telangana Secretariat.

There has been a long-pending demand for regularisation of their services, and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao too had promised to look into their demands during the election campaign. The government feels that many such employees belong to Andhra Pradesh and they need to be filtered out by adopting nativity norms.

Interestingly, information technology minister and son of Mr Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr K.T. Rama Rao, is the honorary president of the Telangana Contract and Outsourcing Employees Association. The association was formed two years ago on the occasion of Mr Rama Rao’s birthday on July 26 and there have been celebrations on that day every year since then.

This year too, the association has planned grand celebrations on July 26 in the city for which Mr Rama Rao has been invited. The association is hopeful of Mr Rama Rao making an official announcement over regularising their services in consultation with the Chief Minister on July 26.

However, the TRS government is also under intense pressure from the Telangana students over not regularising the services of contract employees as it will deprive them of government jobs, for which they fought as part of the Telangana agitation since 2009.

The Chief Minister, who assured of regularisation during election meetings, even faced the wrath of Osmania University students when they prevented his helicopter from landing on the campus by pelting stones and footwear.

With this, the Telangana government is planning to regularise only those employees, whose families are residents of Telangana state prior to 1956 along the lines of students eligible for fee reimbursement. In this way, it plans to filter out many employees and pacify the students from Telangana.
