Maharashtra projects fail to get inflows
Hyderabad: Though the Irrigation Water Year started from June 1, there were nil inflows in all the projects till date. June inflows are very meagre in any normal year, but July and August are crucial for inflows.
Unless the Almatti Dam receives good inflows and storage, the Karnataka government might not release waters to downstream projects in AP and Telangana. But one cannot blame Karnataka as there are no rains in the catchment areas of Krishna, Bheema and Tungabhadra basins.
The situation is similar on the Godavari front. The up-stream projects on Godavari in Maharashtra is also not receiving any inflows due to failure of rains in the catchment area. Thus uncertainty looms large over the fate of Sriram Sagar and Nizam Sagar projects in Telangana spread over to five districts.
