Andhra Pradesh and Telangana refuse to share data on NGO funding
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have submitted only partial details regarding NGOs with foreign funding working in the two states though both have received more than Rs 1,000 crore in foreign funding in a year.
The Supreme Court recently expressed dissatisfaction over this and asked the CBI to furnish details of all the NGOs within three months.
Three districts out of the top 10 recipient districts in the country are from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana according to the latest FCRA data released by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In 2012-13, NGOs in AP and Telangana received Rs 1,146 crore and was in third position next to Delhi and Tamil Nadu.
According to the MHA, Anantapur and Krishna in Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy in Telangana are the top districts receiving funds. While most of the NGOs fail to submit I-T returns and FCRA details with the MHA, neither the state or Central agencies check them. The CBI in Hyderabad has taken up only two cases of NGO fraud in the past 10 years. In one of the cases, the accused was convicted recently.
