Telangana nativity norms to be fixed on July 16

Once norms are finalised, long-delayed Eamcet counselling will commence immediately

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will finalise the nativity norms on fee reimbursement during a Cabinet meeting to be held on July 16. Education minister G. Jagadeeshwar Reddy said, that once these norms are finalised, the long-delayed Eamcet counselling will commence immediately.

Mr Reddy criticised Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for writing to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, asking him to begin the Eamcet counselling at the earliest. He said it was Mr Naidu alone who was responsible for blocking the Eamcet counselling process by insisting that the T-government must pay the fees for students from Andhra Pradesh studying in Hyderabad.

“If Mr Naidu had agreed to pay the fees of AP students studying in Telangana, the counselling would have been over by now and classes would have commenced,” the minister said. He said the T-government is very clear on the fee reimbursement policy and the scheme will be available only to students from Telangana. He said that the Cabinet is meeting on July 16 and will take a final call on the issue.

As the T-government has already taken an in-principle decision to take 1956 as the cut-off year to determine nativity of T-students, another proposal of taking 1972 (when the Presidential Order on reservation for locals was issued) as the cut-off year is also being considered.
