Polavaram move undemocratic, will move Supreme Court: KCR
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday called the Centre’s decision to merge seven mandals of Khammam district with Andhra Pradesh as “undemocratic” and a “clear-cut violation of Article 3.”

The Chief Minister expressed deep dissatisfaction over passing of the Bill incorporating amendments to the State Reorganisation Act by the Lok Sabha, transferring the areas that will be submerged under Polavaram in Khammam district to Andhra Pradesh.

He said that the NDA government’s decision was “unfortunate and undemocratic”, adding that it was unethical on the part of the NDA government to pass the Bill in this manner just because it enjoyed majority in the Lok Sabha. He said that the Union government should have taken the Telangana government in confidence and should have obtained its consent before passing the Ordinance in Parliament.

Mr Rao said that though his party MPs had argued against this move, the NDA did not consider their objections. He said that he himself had requested the Centre and the President to change the dam design.
