Guntur to house AIIMS, cancer centre
Vijayawada/Guntur: The health sector of Andhra Pradesh is all set to witness major reforms.
The state government plans to start a cancer care centre in Chinna Kakani of Guntur district as the district is centrally located. At the same time, the AIIMS proposed by the Centre will also come up at Guntur-Krishna circuit.
The department is also initiating a “five-in-one” vaccination programme, which will be helpful to combat spread of HIV, said health minister Kamineni Srinivas Rao, adding that the single vaccine was sufficient for all major diseases.
The minister said that the Centre has proposed to start a cancer centre in every state with Rs 120 crore and for AP it will be at Guntur.
He said that principal secretary of the department L.V. Subramanyam had been asked to conduct a survey about the land, facilities and infrastructure in the hospital.
Mr Srinivas said that the Centre has allotted Rs 125 crore as preliminary expenditure for the establishment of AIIMS between Vijayawada and Guntur.
“We will also establish super-specialty hospitals in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada,” he added.
The minister said that Public Private Partnership (PPP) would be invited in the health sector.
The minister also added that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will soon hold a meeting with the officials to finalise a health roadmap.
