Goodbye to pink ration cards in Telangana state

At present there are over 15 lakh pink ration cardholders in the state

Hyderabad: Pink ration cards are all set to be abolished in Telangana. Though pink card holders are not eligible for subsidised food from ration shops, there has been a huge demand for these cards, especially in cities, as they serve as “proof of address” to obtain passports, domicile certificates etc.

At present there are over 15 lakh pink ration cardholders in the state. The state government feels that since Aadhaar cards, which are valid proof of address documents, have already been issued to the people in the state, there is no need to issue pink cards anymore or continue with the existing ones. The issue came up for discussion during recent meetings held by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on weeding out bogus cards.
