Ban cell phones in schools and colleges, recommends Karnataka MLAs panel
Bangalore: Mobile phones in schools and colleges should be banned as per a recommendation of a house committee of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. They blamed the device for the rise in rapes and other crimes against women.
The State Women and Child Welfare Committee expressed its support for implementation of the same.
The committee seems to believe that the crime rate may come down if school and college students refrain from using the smart phones that give direct access to the social media. They also mentioned that students meet people online who may not be genuine, which could lead to molestation.
BJP had made a similar proposal earlier, though the concern was health hazards from using the mobile phone for long hours.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah too seemed to differ with the conclusions drawn by the panel. He mentioned that we use advanced technology but he doesn’t think that it affects the behaviour of children.
