Mumbai: Screenwriter and lyricist Niranjan Iyengar is following his good friend Karan Johar’s footsteps by turning into a television chat show host. In fact, he is even anticipating that the audiences might draw comparisons between his show Look Who’s Talking and Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan.
“When I was first offered the show, I chatted with Karan and he gave me lots of tips for it. But it was the episode with him that made me most nervous. I kept telling him not to intimidate me. But I also feel that episode turned out to be the best as I didn’t expect him to be as candid as he was,” says Niranjan, who had started off his career as a film journalist.
He admits that hosting a show wasn’t something he had planned. He says, “This offer completely caught me by surprise. I have always been away from the limelight. The producers approached me saying they wanted me to host the chat show, my first reaction was, ‘why me’? There are so many people doing a far better job than me. But when I agreed, I wanted the format and the tone of the show to be in tune with my personality. Luckily they agreed.”
About getting his guests to spill the beans, Niranjan says, “I have known Kajol for years now but had never known how exactly she met Ajay. She spilled all the details on the show. Meanwhile, Sidharth Malhotra told me he was fat as a kid. Arjun Kapoor said he dates girls who like kissing!”
