Family soap actors sizzle on silver screen in debut movie ‘Hate Story 2’

Actors of TV shows break rules with their debut Bollywood film, Hate Story 2

The lead couple in the upcoming film, Hate Story 2, Jay Bhanushali and Surveen Chawla, have raised as many eyebrows as their movie trailers have. That’s because, they make their B’wood debut with this erotic thriller, a far cry from their ‘clean cut’ television image. In the city to promote the film, actors Jay Bhanushali, Surveen Chawla and Sushant Singh talk about their film.

“I can’t lose my Connection with TV”

When asked whether his TV fans will accept him, especially the steamy scenes, in Hate Story 2, Jay says, “People have loved me for my work and will accept my film as well. I play a photographer and the intimate scenes are just a part of the film. There is much more to that, so I’m quite sure that the story of the film will definitely draw the crowds.”

Were the intimate scenes with Surveen a challenge? “Surveen and I know each other for a long time. We have performed together, so there was already a level of comfort, everything else just fell in place,” says the actor.

Jay is already receiving a few other offers. Does this mean no more television? “No. I love television and I have decided that I will anchor at least one reality show every year. I can’t lose my connection with TV.”

“A bold film, but not because of the skin show”

Surveen, who reportedly had a nervous breakdown on the sets, says, “I actually went numb after a few shots. A few of the scenes depicted physical abuse, so after shooting them, I felt very shaken. I guess that was what caused me to just go numb,” she says, adding, “It is a bold film, not for the skin-show, but because it’s about a woman who has been wronged and how she musters the courage to fight against her perpetrators.” So what does the future hold? “My film with Anurag Kashyap, Ugly, will release next month. And I’m working on a project where I play a sexually- oppressed woman.”

“I have No issues playing a villain”

From his role on a TV show where he warns people against crimes to a role where he inflicts abuse, was there a doubt about how the audience would accept Sushant? “I’ve always been known for my acting skills. People don’t associate my roles to the person I am in real. So the issue of these two roles clashing never struck me even once,” he says.
