Jagan Mohan Reddy meets President, Rajnath Singh over TD threat

YSRC chief wants AP government to stop intimidating the Opposition

New Delhi: Alleging that the Telugu Desam government in Andhra Pradesh has unleashed a “reign of terror” on the activists of YSRC, party chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday met President Pranab Mukherjee and Union home minister Rajnath Singh demanding an advisory to the state government, asking it to stop intimidating the Opposition.

In separate meetings with Mr Mukherjee and Mr Singh, the leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly said the behaviour of the TD and its leaders is “one of utter disrespect for democratic norms and they are working with a clear design to physically eliminate the Opposition in the state.”

In identical memorandums submitted to the President and the home minister, Mr Reddy said there have been several attacks across the state on YSRC cadre resulting in 17 deaths and serious injuries to another 110 persons ever since the results of Lok Sabha and Assembly polls were announced on May 16.

Mr Reddy also alleged that the TD, within eight days of winning the election, succeeded in making a YSRC MP leave the party and join the TD.
