Archives to locate Telangana natives

Telangana government is all set to issue guidelines in a day or two for determining nativity

Hyderabad: The records dating back to 1952 to 1956 stored in the State Archives and Research Institute, Tarnaka, will be verified for determining the “nativity” of Telangana people.

The Telangana government has enquired with the institute officials about the availability of these records and the latter have confirmed that they have all records such as voters’ lists, Census, Nizam-era revenue records etc., for the period 1952 to 56.

The Telangana government is all set to issue guidelines in a day or two for determining nativity for eligibility for admissions, fee reimbursement, scholarships, government jobs and all other welfare schemes.

The government is keen that the benefits offered by it reach only “real Telangana residents” for which the cut-off year of 1956 has been proposed, when Hyderabad State was merged to form Andhra Pradesh. Under this new policy, the parents or grandparents of beneficiaries should have been residents of Telangana prior to 1956.

When the issue of taking 1956 as the cut-off year to determine nativity came up during a meeting convened by CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao last week at the Secretariat, officials had raised doubts over how to identify T residents prior to 1956.
