Animal cruelty: College ill-treating dogs
Hyderabad: A complaint has been filed with the Banjara Hills Police station against the management of Pasha College of Education, Banjara Hills for, ill-treating a pet dog.
The complainant, Dattatraya Joshi, executive officer, People for Animals, said, “In April, a team had gone for inspection and found a pair of Great Danes and one Labrador tied up in the premises without proper shelter. The male Great Dane was weak, unwell, and in bad condition. However, the college management rubbished the allegations.”
“We tried to seize these dogs in April, but the owner came to the police station and said he would make shelters. He added that the dogs had liver problems and that’s why they were skinny. The dogs are tied up all day. The owner claimed that he left them free at nights,” said Pravallika Nagam, a member of Blue cross.
Amala Akkineni, chairman, Blue Cross, Hyderabad, in a letter, said, “We must take strong action again them. They have violated animal welfare laws.”
K. Mahesh, SI, Banjara Hills police station, said, “A team will inspect the dogs’ condition and record statements of the observers; based on that, action will be taken. So far, the dogs have not been confiscated.”
Omar Pasha, member of the Pasha Trust institution, said, “We are tenants. The dogs’ owner is currently in London. The male Great Dane has been sick for a while. The vet has said it is suffering from a liver disorder and digestion problem. It is taken care of but remains unwell. The other dogs are healthy. There has been no ill-treatment from the management towards the dogs.”
