Telangana CM KCR for power plant at Ramagundam
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao asked NTPC to ensure availability of 4,000 mw of power to the state, reeling under power shortage, at the earliest.
Mr Rao reminded NTPC chairman-cum-managing director Dr Arup Ray Choudhary, CMD, who called on him at the Secretariat, about the clause in the AP Reorganisation Bill that assures that the Centre would help establish a 4000 mw NTPC power plant in the state.
During the course of the discussions, the Chief Minister suggested that NTPC delegation establish the proposed plant at Ramagundam in view of availability of coal and water. “This should be part of expansion of existing NTPC units at Ramagundam,” Mr Rao said.
The official is said to have agreed to the proposal.
Mr Rao suggested that the barren lands where mining has been completed could be earmarked for the establishment of the new unit. He asked officials to prepare DPR soon. “The new unit should start functioning in 39-months’ time. Singareni can provide the needed coal. It will be cost effective project if established at Ramagundam,” he said.
Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Narsing Rao and other officials of NTPC and government were also present.
