Rain delay may interrupt water supply

There is enough water in reservoirs but if monsoon delays, there might be problem

Hyderabad: There is enough water in the reservoirs to supply to the city till September, but if the monsoon continues to play truant, there might be a problem.

“We are monitoring the monsoon. If the meteorological officials warn us of further delays, then the water supply will need to be interrupted, so that the reserved water can be made to last longer. This short supply would continue till the Krishna phase III becomes operational. Which is likely to happen by December,” said a Water Board official.

The city receives 340 MGD of water every day, which is drawn from the Osmansagar and Himayatsagar (40 MGD), Krishna phases I and II (180 MGD), and Manjeera reservoir (120 MGD). The water levels in Himayatsagar and Osmansagar are higher than last year.

Osmansagar water level would last for 170 days while Himayatsagar for 162 days. Water levels in Singur and Manjeera are also better than last year. Nagarjunasagar, which feeds Krishna phases I and II, has less water than last year. The current level is at 514.70 ft as against 520.30 ft last year.
