GAIL blast aftermath: CNG pumps run dry, auto drivers worst hit
Hyderabad: Almost all the CNG pumps in the city were deserted on Tuesday as the pumps have shut down indefinitely. This is due to the stoppage in CNG supply following the Gail pipeline blast at Nagaram.
CNG supplies to retail outlets in Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Kakinada have been suspended causing major inconvenience to autorickshaw drivers and owners of four-wheelers that run on CNG. All the bunks have stuck a notice informing patrons that the supply has been stopped.
There are a total of 13 HPCL CNG stations, one owned by IOC and two owned by the Bhagyanagar Gas Ltd. Autorickshaw drivers are upset as there was no prior notice.
“We were not given any notice. Most of the bunks have been shut since Monday. There are already very few CNG pumps, and now we are helpless. Our livelihood depends on CNG. The government had said that there will be tax exemption if we switch to CNG, but this is going to add to our burden,” said A. Sathi Reddy, general secretary, AP Auto Drivers’ Samakhya.
