Administrative Staff College of India project to focus on new shelters

Modern bus shelters with a public information system will be constructed

Hyderabad: The Administrative Staff College of India, along with the GHMC, Traffic department and the RTC is working on a pilot project concerning main routes, covering 108 locations, to physically survey and verify the feasibility of setting up new, bus shelters.

The ASCI, a nodal agency, will submit a report by July 20 to the government after which modern bus shelters with a public information system and Mumbai-like queue system will be constructed.

“The report will be submitted on July 20. Depending on the number of bus stops proposed, we will install public information system with display boards that will keep updating bus timings and schedules. More bus bays are required since roads are narrow and buses obstruct traffic when they stop,” said L. Vijayalakshmi, deputy chief traffic manager, GHMC zone, RTC.

Location of the new shelters and their construction, clearing encroachments, creating more approach roads and other issues are being looked into by the committee. “Proper queue systems need to be implemented to enable ladies and differently-abled people to board buses. The aim is to increase bus efficiency and proper delivery of RTC facilities,” said G. Jaya Rao, ED, RTC.
