Telangana to link NREGS with irrigation
Government plans to engage rural masses for minor irrigation works instead of private contractors
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is thinking about linking the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) with minor irrigation works.
Minister for panchayat raj K.T. Rama Rao said the government is planning to assign the minor irrigation works under the NREGS to jobless rural masses instead of engaging private contractors.
Mr Rao, who held a review meeting with the department officials here on Sunday, said the government is planning to increase mandays under the NREGS from the present 100 days.
He said the Budget Session of Telangana Legislative Assembly is likely to be held in the last week of August.
The 40-day Session is expect to last till second week of September.
