Tamil Nadu to honour personnel who toiled in collapse rescue operation

The multi-agency rescue operations lasted relentlessly for a week

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government will honour on Tuesday personnel involved in the rescue operations at the site of the 11-storey under construction building which collapsed at Suburban Porur recently in which 61 lives were lost.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa will give away incentives and certificates to persons from various departments in commendation of their efforts in taking up rescue works on a "war footing" at a function being organised here on Tuesday, an official release said.

The multi-agency rescue operations that commenced on June 28 lasted for a week and the rescue team pulled out 27 persons alive from debris.

Personnel from National Disaster Response Force, Police, Revenue Department and Chennai Corporation undertook the rescue operations.
