South Central Railway earns Rs 24cr in penalties

The realization is 17% higher when compared to amount realised in same period in 2013

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway realised Rs 24.04 crore towards penalties imposed on ticketless travellers during the first quarter of current financial year. The realization is 17 per cent higher when compared to the amount realised in the same period in 2013.

The railway staff had been conducting extensive checks against ticketless travel, irregular travel and un-booked luggage during from April to June 2014. As a result of these checks, a total of 7.5 lakh cases of irregularities were detected. These include 2.22 lakh cases of travel without tickets; 2.83 lakh cases of irregular travel (transfer of reserved tickets, adults traveling with child without ticket etc.) and 2.45 lakh cases of un-booked luggage.
