New Delhi: A woman in New Delhi was unable to breastfeed her infant son as she had chronic abdominal pain. Later, her medical examination revealed that the cause of pain was large cotton gauze allegedly left inside her body by the doctors who performed a caesarian section to deliver her son. The huge piece of the gauze caused severe infection and damage to her intestinal wall.
A leading hospital in National Capital Region was responsible for such negligence and the patients family was highly disappointed with the irresponsible behaviour. Since the birth of her son in December 22 last year, the patient had been visiting hospitals and clinics, undergoing rigorous medical tests to determine the cause of her pain.
The family has alleged that despite them informing the hospital the officials about the negligence, they paid no attention to the condition of the patient. The patient’s family has so far spent around Rs 5 lakh on her treatment.
As informed by the family, the officials kept passing the patient’s case to different departments instead of looking into the matter seriously. The woman is still critical due to the damage caused.
