Alumni ignore Osmania University request for funds

University officials plan to ask for a Rs 100-crore special grant from the Centre and state government

Hyderabad: Osmania University is hoping its famed alumni will partially fund the centenary celebrations, although hardly anyone has come forward. University officials plan to ask for a Rs 100-crore special grant from the Centre and state government to fund the centenary celebrations four years from now in 2018.

Unlike universities abroad, where the alumni donate heavily to their alma mater, the former students of Osmania have hardly made any contribution. The University, however, boasts of a formidable list of ex-students including former chief minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, former RBI governor Y.V. Reddy, Adobe Systems CEO Shantanu Narayen, Harsha Bhogle, Hetero Drugs CMD K. Parthasarathy and many others. OU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Satyanarayana, requested the North America Telugu Association alumni to donate Rs 100 each, but no one has come forward.
