Staff crunch blamed for late session of fee reimbursement

Counselling process cannot begin until there is clarity on fee reimbursement issue

Hyderabad: A press release from the Telangana Chief Minister’s office said: “It is becoming difficult to work with shortage of officers and fee reimbursement being a huge subject, requires lot of exercise.”

Senior officials in the education department had said that the counselling process cannot begin until there is clarity on the fee reimbursement issue since its modalities will affect a backward student’s choice of college.

The State Council of Higher Education has also asked principal secretaries of the two states to discuss and take a decision on the dates of counselling.

However, classes beginning in November will mean the whole academic year will once again be thrown out of gear. Dr P. Rajeshwar Reddy, general secretary, Consortium of Private Engineering College Managements of Telangana, said, “Over the last seven to eight years classes have always started in October. Last year also the government had taken permission from the Supreme Court. But this year, it can start well before November.”

Due to inordinate delays, the Supreme Court had started imposing the deadline from last year and asked states to complete admissions by July end and start classes from August 1.
