DGP appointments: Fresh affidavits filed
Hyderabad: S.A. Huda and T.P. Das, senior IPS officers of the AP cadre have moved fresh affidavits before the Hyderabad Bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal, challenging the notification issued by the Centre by allotting IPS officers to AP and Telangana.
The officers moved the affidavits as the advocate general of Telangana took exception in not challenging the original notification in their petition, challenging the appointments of in-charge DGPs to AP and Telangana and not making the in-charge DGPs as parties to the petitions.
They made the chief secretaries of both the states and the Union home secretary as respondents to the plea besides making both J.V. Ramudu and Anurag Sharma as parties to the petition. The petitioners expressed apprehension that AP may extend the tenure of its current DGP Mr Ramudu, who is set to retire at the end of July 2014 and urged the Tribunal not to allow such a practice.
They said it was unlawful to promote Mr Ramudu and Mr Sharma to the rank of DG when there were no vacancies in that rank. They pointed out that the appointment of the in-charge DGP of Telangana was made by the AP government, which was impermissible under the law and urged the Tribunal to direct both states to appoint them as DGPs instead for both states as they are senior officers.
