Telangana has just three observation homes
Hyderabad: The latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data shows that over 693 juveniles were found to be in conflict with law (accused) for theft in 2013, whereas over 917 were arrested for the same offence across united AP.
A total of 76 were apprehended for murder, 43 for attempt to murder, 54 for kidnapping, 42 for abduction, 383 for burglary and 30 for robbery across the state in 2013. Despite there being so many juvenile convicts, there are barely any rehabilitation measures being taken up.
Telangana has just three observation homes for 10 districts — one each in Hyderabad, Warangal and Nizamabad.
Indicating a stronger need for de-addiction and rehabilitation, Mamatha Raghuveer, member, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights said, “If these kids are let off without any form of correctional measures, they are going to go back to where they started from. It is very important to expose them to a fixed pattern of education and help them realise the importance of it. We need more observational homes.”
