Personal digital assistant devices for Cyberabad police
Hyderabad: Commuters caught for violating traffic laws in Hyderabad, and has not paid the E-challan fine, would now have to pay both Hyderabad's pending amount and Cyberabad's fine if caught on Outer Ring Road or anywhere else in Cyberabad.
The Cyberabad traffic police is equipping cops with Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) on ORR and the entire Cyberabad area to recover pending fines. At present the Cyberabad traffic police is unable to recover around 70 per cent of E-challan fines due to incorrect address, change in ownership of the vehicle or violators refusing to pay willfully. With the introduction of PDAs in Hyderabad the traffic police has recovered 60 per cent of the pending fine.
Mr Avinash Mohanty, the Cyberabad deputy commissioner of police (traffic) said, “The city traffic department is putting in place an integrated E-challan system along with Cyberabad police. Whenever a violator is caught in either place his/her entire history of violations in both places will be checked. The motorist will have to pay the fine for all violations.”
A manual challan book will not have the violation history of the commuter unlike the PDA system. For example if a person was caught for triple riding and an amount of Rs 100 was levied as fine through e-challan, the next time if the same person is caught the official will fine him Rs 200 as the history of the commuter is recorded in the PDA system. The integrated system has the option to swipe credit and debit cards.
“The Cyberabad traffic police will also link the database of all stolen vehicles to the PDA system, so that whenever a vehicle is caught for violations its ownership details can be checked, which is impossible in the manual system,” the Cyberabad traffic DCP added.
