Call to rechristen more Andhra Pradesh districts

Proposal to increase the existing 13 districts into 25 to meet the demands

Visakhapatnam: There had been a huge furore when AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had pitched to rename the Shamshabad airport in Hyderabad after TD founder N.T. Rama Rao and now there are many such demands in the state to rename various districts after certain leaders.

A few leaders are even seeing an opportunity in the proposal to increase the existing 13 districts into 25 to meet the “demands”.

There is a fresh demand in Srikakulam to rename the district after TD leader K. Yerrannaidu, who died in a road mishap in 2012.

Since 2008, the government had heeded similar demands and renamed Kadapa and Nellore districts after YSR and Potti Sreeramulu, who had fought for a separate Telugu state.
