I can’t get Baby Doll out of my head: Akcent founder Adrian Sina

Akcent, one of the biggest bands from Romania, is on its way to Kochi for their first ever performance in Kerala on August 15
Kochi: Having performed nearly three dozen shows in India, Adrian Sina, Akcent’s founder, wanted to come back more often. “I have been to India so many times, but there is never enough time to do everything I want. India is an incredible place and my best shows outside Romania have been in India. The audience is so warm and they know the lyrics to all my songs! The first time I performed Kamelia in India, even though it was brand new, everyone knew the lyrics, which was impressive! This is my first time in Kerala and I hope to have time to see the wildlife and take a houseboat ride. I have heard a lot about Kerala. So I’m happy to be able to visit and also meet the people and perform in Kochi,” he adds.
Sharing information about himself, he says, “I come from up north Romania, the beautiful city of Baia Mare. I perform there annually for the Maroon Festival. I have two siblings with whom I am very close and they’ve always been there for me in this journey. I started my music career when I was 16 as a club DJ, then became a radio DJ and radio producer. Then I studied music production and released my first song as Akcent back in 1999. The act’s formula has changed over the years. I’ve always produced the songs either alone or along with other famous Romanian producers such as Play & Win or Morandi. Usually I come up with the vocal of the track, then start creating the instrumental around it, while the lyrics and collaborations plus other polishing ideas come last. It takes time, I have a dozen new ideas in my studio and in my laptop, which I use as a mobile studio when I travel. I also carry a professional portable studio microphone. Some past members of Akcent have also written songs.”
Adrian has been the only consistent member of the band and, with Sorin Brotnei and Mihai Gruia leaving, is now the only member in the band. About the break up, Adrian says, “Long story short, they’ve betrayed me. In the last months that we were working together, I felt they had their heart in another place; their own individual projects from other fields. So I got creative and got new talent into Akcent. I’m very pleased with the result. My latest EP release is going very well, having reached top chart positions in iTunes in many territories. The brand new single Kamelia with DDY and Lidia Buble is going up the charts, being already Top 10 on Romanian and Bulgarian radio stations and Number 1 in Shazam in Eastern Europe, Middle East and the sub-continent.”
Akcent is hopeful of entering the Indian music industry. “I was approached to do a Bollywood movie theme. I wrote a song too, but nothing has moved further since. The time will come for this as well, I’m sure. I like Priyanka Chopra and A.R. Rahman, with whom I’d love to work. I can’t get Baby Doll out of my head, it’s infectious! I’m presently working on three new productions — a new single for Sandra N, the new single of the boy band, Maxim, and a brand new Akcent song, an EDM number, in collaboration with Ronnie Bassroller, a very talented Indian DJ,” he shares.
