Saudi Arabia reinforces border with Iraq
London: Saudi Arabia has moved 30,000 soldiers on its northern border, reports in the British media said.
The move came after 2,500 Iraqi soldiers reportedly quit their posts, leaving the country open to the threat of a lightning advance by ISIS militants, the Daily Mail reported.
King Abdullah ordered all necessary measures to protect the kingdom against potential 'terrorist threats' as the possibility of ISIS taking yet more territory in the West Asia appeared to increase.
Iraq’s government later denied that its forces had abandoned their posts and claimed that the border was operating as usual. However, a video purported to show border guards explaining they left on the orders from the administration of Iraq's Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
Similar reports were carried by The Independent. Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama called Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to discuss the current situation in Iraq and the threat being posed by ISIS.
