FIFA World Cup 2014: Matches & predictions for quarterfinals

With the world cup entering quarter final stage, DC predicts the wins and losses

Rio de Janeiro: The wheat has been separated from the chaff and it’s time to tighten your seatbelts. The ride on the home bend of a World Cup can be either thrilling or edgy depending on your luck but there is no harm in getting ready for it.

Argentina vs Belgium

Argentina continue to be a one-man team while Belgium are peaking at the right time. The meeting of the two on Saturday could turn out to be a game changer of the whole tournament. Belgium certainly have the tools to hurt Messi’s team.

The Red Devils have outstanding midfielders in Eden Hazard and Kevin de Bruyne. The two can turn a match around in a flash and Argentina don’t have similar class in the middle of the park. If Vincent Kompany keeps Messi calm, half of Belgium’s job would be done. Argentina’s much-vaunted forward line hasn’t fired yet.

Prediction: Belgium will crush Messi’s dreams.

Costa Rica vs The Netherlands

In four matches, Costa Rica have conceded only one goal in open play. The giant-killers of the tournament will be hoping for another scalp on Saturday when they taken on the Netherlands.

Costa Rica will have nothing to lose as they have already sealed the country’s biggest achievement in sports. The Dutch are a savvy team, if not anything else. Coach Louis van Gaal has the ability to make a difference from the touchline when the going gets tough.

The constellation of Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder will be too hot to handle for the Costa Ricans.

Prediction: The Oranje will progress without much ado.
