Hyderabad: The AP government is planning to link all major engineering colleges with industries to rectify the current disconnect that is severely handicapping graduates. A recent study has pointed out that a staggering 83 per cent of the engineers are unfit for employment. The government now wants a direct link between colleges and recruiters, to improve the quality of graduates.
“We have been asked to prepare lists of colleges and local industries for every district and the possible connections as well,” said an official of the technical education department.
"So for most purposes, they won't have to go to north India for industrial tours. It can be done here itself. We have most of the major industries."
The list will include public sector undertakings. Proposals to send members of the industry to colleges to interact with students and deliver lectures are also being considered. But industry participation in academics could be limited, say officials. There are other problem areas as well.
"The curriculum should be revised periodically but that is hardly happening. In Osmania University, the curriculum hasn't been revised for ages. We should be supervising that, but we are stuck in other work," said a senior official of the state council for higher education
