Human Rights Commission panel seek report on GAIL blast

NHRC issues notices to Union minister, MD of GAIL and district collector to submit reports

Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission on Wednesday took up suo motu cognisance of natural gas pipeline explosion that caused 17 deaths in Nagaram of East Godavari district. NHRC issued notices to the Union minister of oil and natural gas resources, chairman and MD of Gas Authority of India Limited and East Godavari district collector.

All the three were asked to submit reports in two weeks. The NHRC said the media reports revealed that the people in the village had complained to the GAIL authorities about the gas leakage, but no action was taken to rectify the same.
