Delhi: Optical showroom owner rapes employee on first day of work, arrested
New Delhi: A 30-year-old woman alleged she was raped by her employer after she was drugged on the first day of her new job at an optical showroom in west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar, according to media reports.
The saleswoman, who is a divorcee, said that her employer Deepak Malhotra raped her barely 30 minutes after she joined the new job. According to the woman, Malhotra had spiked the water with sedatives.
The 61-year-old owner of the showroom has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning, police said.
“Last week, she saw an advertisement in a newspaper about requirement for a salesgirl at an optical showroom in Jwala Heri. She applied for the job and was called for an interview on Monday. Malhotra interviewed her and selected her. He also asked her to report for work at 10am on Tuesday,” said a police officer, quoting the woman’s complaint.
The woman said she joined work at 10am, but Malhotra arrived at 10.30am. Immediately after arriving, he called her to his cabin on the pretext of briefing her about the job.
“He offered her a glass of water which she drank and fell unconscious almost immediately. She regained consciousness almost half-an-hour later and realised that she had been raped. Malhotra was present in the room but she managed to excuse herself out of the cabin and informed the police immediately,” the officer said.
