Mumbai: There are not too many who don’t know who Sachin Tendulkar is; even in the countries where cricket is hardly played. Take for example, Roger Federer’s meeting with Sachin Tendulkar a few years back and his knowledge about the Indian legend. Or Michael Schumacher’s rendezvous with the batting maestro.
But the Russian champion Maria Sharapova is not in that league and that created the oops moment for the Russian superstar during the ongoing Wimbledon.
Tennis World reports that when the current French Open winner was asked: "Sachin Tendulkar was the other person who came in at the same time as David (Beckham). Do you know who Sachin is?" The French Open winner flatly replied: "I don't."
While cricket’s global appeal in comparison with football or tennis is less, but considering Sachin Tendulkar is quite regular at SW 19, one expected Sharapova to know who Sachin Tendulkar is.
