United Andhra Pradesh tops in crime against woman
Hyderabad: As per National Crime Record Bureau accounts, united Andhra Pradesh tops in crime against women in the country with the highest crime rate recorded in 2013.
With more than 10 per cent of total such cases reported in India, AP has beaten the previous year’s toppers, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh, with an alarming number of rapes, dowry deaths and female kidnaps in the last year. Officials said that the crimes increased by 16.4 per cent from 2012.
As per the NCRB data, as many as 32,809 cases were booked by the state police in connection with different incidents of crime against woman, an increase by more than 4,600 over 2012.
Uttar Pradesh in second place witnessed 32,546 cases and West Bengal reported 29,826 cases of crimes against woman.
According to NCRB data, rape cases also increased in the state despite the police boasting of increasing security for women. As many as 1635 rape cases were reported in the state before bifurcation. Cyberabad had the most number of rape cases in the state with as many as 138 in the last year and West Godavari was second with 123 registered cases.
