Should I kill him? Mamata Banerjee snaps at media over Tapas Pal's rape remark row

Mamata Banerjee described the remark as a ‘big blunder’; FIR filed against MP

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee termed party leader Tapas Pal's rape remark as a "big blunder" and said whatever steps are needed to be taken have been taken.

"It is not just a mistake, it's big blunder. We have taken whatever steps are needed to be taken. It is an individual utterance. What do you want? Should I kill him? What can I do? Whatever I can do we can do it through our policy," Banerjee told reporters in South 24-Paraganas district on Tuesday.

She said that Pal had issued an unconditional apology letter on her instruction.

"The CPI(M), Congress and some others had in the past said so many things. CPI(M) had said so many things about me. I never saw you people (media) to protest against this. But here I will protest because I feel that it should not have been done. The Party has already cautioned Tapas Pal. We condemn his statement," Banerjee added.

Banerjee further clarified that the party does not endorse Pal’s views and whoever engages in any such activity, which tarnishes the image of the party, the party does not support them or their views.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against Pal for his offensive remarks against women.

Pal's comment, which went viral on a vernacular TV news channel on Monday had quoted him saying, "If any CPIM man is present here. Listen to me. If you ever touch any Trinamool Congress worker or their families at Choumaha, you have to pay for this. Don't try to act smart with me. I am smarter than you..."

"... Earlier, you guys have bullied me on various occasions. If you insult the mothers and daughters of Trinamool workers. Then I won't spare you. I will let loose my boys in your homes and they will commit rape. I will teach each of you a lesson," the MP had warned.
