Monsoon pressure builds up
Visakhapatnam: A low-pressure area has formed over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal.
Associated upper air cyclonic circulation has gradually been extending up to mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. The Met department has predicted rains or thundershowers at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Rayalaseema.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions have been prevailing at isolated places over Anantapur, Chittoor, East Godavari and Krishna districts. The conditions would also extend to Adilabad, Karimnagar, Medak and Warangal of Telangana and to Guntur, Krishna and Kurnool of AP.
Maximum temperatures have been above normal by 5-7ºC at a few places in Andhra Pradesh and temperatures of 42ºC and more were recorded at Machilipatnam, Bapatla, Rentachintala and Vijayawada. Rain occurred at isolated places over Coastal AP and Rayalaseema and also in Prakasam, Srikakulam and Chittoor districts in the last 24 hours. Mainly dry weather prevailed over Telangana.
