Krishna River Management Board tells Telangana to release water for Andhra Pradesh

first order issued on June 24 for release of 3.6 tmc ft of water at the rate of 6,000 cusecs

Hyderabad: A fresh controversy arose between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening with the Telangana government refusing to implement the Krishna River Management Board’s (KRMB) latest orders for fresh release of 3.6 tmc ft of water from Nagarjunasagar to the Krishna Delta System for drinking purposes.

The first order issued on June 24 for release of 3.6 tmc ft of water at the rate of 6,000 cusecs from Nagarjunasagar has been carried out by the Telangana government and completed by 8 pm on Tuesday.

However, the AP government requested the KRMB in-charge chairman A.B. Pandya to extend the release by another week since the realisation of the earlier quantum of water was insignificant at Prakasam Barrage near Vijayawada, which is supposed to divert the waters to canals for filling up drinking water tanks in the entire delta area comprising four districts.
