Junior doctors’ strike enters second day
Hyderabad: Patients suffered at both the government hospitals, Gandhi and Osmania General Hospital as junior doctors continued with their strike on the second day demanding Special Protection Force against errant patients and their attendants.
Services at both the hospitals in the out-patient department were paralysed as doctors refused to treat patients. Those who came from rural areas were in for a shock as they were compelled to wait for long as there were only one or two senior doctors attending to them.
Dr Sai Kiran of Gandhi Hospital explained, “We are demanding the government’s intervention but no one is listening. Isn’t our security important? We want the relatives of those patients to be arrested and action taken against them. Until that happens, we are not going to stop. We will continue with our protest.”
Superintendent of Gandhi hospital, Dr Ashok Kumar, said, “We have been explaining to the doctors that the security issue will be looked into and they must get back to work. But they want to speak to the director of health and medical education. However, at present, he is in Vijaywada for counselling.”
