Home Minister Rajnath wants Andhra Pradesh, Telangana to stop fighting

Union Home Ministry is expected to call a meet of both states to sort out differences

New Delhi: In a bid to end the infighting between the administrations of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the Union home ministry is expected to call a meet of top officials of both states to sort out any differences. Home minister Rajnath Singh is learnt to have asked the Union home secretary to look into the matter and mediate between the two states to resolve the issues.

The MHA’s intervention comes in the backdrop of reports that the two states were allegedly fighting over a host of issues, including drinking and irrigation water, power supply and municipal affairs, official sources said.

The sources said that since the new state of Telangana was carved out by the Central government and not due to any proposal from the state Assembly, it was all the more the Centre’s responsibility to ensure the bifurcation process was smooth and divisions of assets and resources be carried out without any hiccups.

Union home secretary Anil Goswami is likely to convene a meeting of the chief secretaries of Telangana and AP soon to amicably sort out all differences between the two states. Sources said the Centre’s priority is to ensure that the infighting between the two administrations does not spiral into street-fighting between people as there have been instances of provocative statements.
