Unlock your phone with a tattoo
Mumbai: You can now try out a new way of unlocking your Moto X. All you need to do is tap on the digital tattoo on your wrist and unlock your Moto X without wasting time on typing your PIN code. Google’s ATAP lab has worked with a company called Vivalnk to make a wearable unlock mechanism for your Moto X in the form of a Digital Tattoo.
A Digital Tattoo pack includes 10 adhesive units that can be applied directly to the skin and used to unlock your phone as though you were using NFC. The product is 24.13mm in diameter, thickness is 160µm and also an unlock distance of 10 mm.
The adhesive on a Digital Tattoo lasts five days on your body under normal conditions.
Steps to use your digital tattoo the right way:
- Select a spot about 2 inches up from your wrist.
- Using the tab, slowly peel a Digital Tattoo off the bottom liner of the tray. Be careful not to touch the adhesive—it can affect the Digital Tattoo’s staying power.
- Place it on your skin and pull out the tab.
- Apply top pressure for 10-20 seconds, to ensure the Digital Tattoo gets a firm hold. You’re good to go!
All digital tattoos come in vortex design at launch. But Vivalnk is open to feedbacks as it claims to introduce multiple design options in digital tattoos.
Just in case your digital tattoo goes missing or stolen, you can unpair it in your security settings. Thieves won’t be able to download your master PIN from your Digital Tattoo because it’s stored on your Moto X, not in your Digital Tattoo. When your Moto X reads your Digital Tattoo, it only reads a unique ID (like a barcode) that allows it to unlock your phone.
You can pair and unpair digital tattoos through the settings under Security > Manage NFC Unlock. You can also disable Digital Tattoos completely by going to Security > Screen lock and choosing a different way to authenticate. This digital tattoo pack is available for $10 which comes to Rs 600 per pack.
