Kamalanathan Panel’s options choice opposed

Telangana trade union leaders met Kamalanathan and urged him not to give ‘options’ for the Seemandhra employees

Hyderabad: The Kamalanathan Committee, appointed by the Centre for division of government employees between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states, said ‘options’ would be given to all the employees to choose the state of their choice.

Despite stiff resistance from the Telangana employees over giving ‘options’ to the Seemandhra staff, the committee decided to go ahead with ‘options’ as specified in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. With this, the contentious issue of staff division is back to square one with the Telangana trade union leaders stating that they will not accept ‘options’ at any cost.

The committee, headed by C.R. Kamalanathan, met Chief Secretaries of both Telangana and AP Rajeev Sharma and I.Y.R. Krishna Rao at the Secretariat to finalise the modalities for division of employees.

Later, Mr Kamalanathan said, “The draft guidelines for division of employees would be posted on the websites of both the governments in two to three days. We will seek suggestions and objections from employees for two weeks. Taking all these into consideration, we will draft the final guidelines and refer them to Centre for approval.”

However, he was categorical that ‘options’ would be given to emplo-yees to choose the state of their choice.

“We suspect Kamalan-athan is being influenced by some powerful Seemandhra politicians and officials. He is showing partiality towards Seemandhra employees. If the committee functions like this, the division of staff will not be completed even after five years,” said Telan-gana employees’ leader P. Madhusudhan Reddy.

Earlier, the Telangana trade union leaders met Mr Kamalanathan and urged him not to give ‘options’ for the Seemandhra employees as they will misuse it to continue working in Hydera-bad. They urged him not to consider the ‘service record’ to determine nativity as they are tampered with.

“We demanded that the committee look into the service records of all the employees again. We suspect that nearly 60,000 Seemandhra employees have tampered or given false nativity details in their service record to continue working in and around Hyderabad,” said TNGOs Association president G. Deviprasad.

Telangana teachers too met Mr Kamalanathan and complained that around 6,000 Seemandhra teachers are illegally working in Hyder-abad and surrounding districts by submitting fake certificates in regard to medical and health grounds, spouse cases among others.

“We urged the committee to set up a medical board to certify health problems of all the employees. Only these certificates have to be considered but not individual doctor’s certificates submitted by employees,” said TPRTU president P. Venkat Reddy.
