Charter may fly to tier-3 cities
New Delhi: To promote air travel in hitherto unconnected destinations, the Government may soon consider allowing non-scheduled air operators (NSOPs) and aircharter firms to convert to scheduled operators to fly on routes not touched by existing airlines.
Meanwhile, aviation regulator DGCA has decided that charter flights operated by Indian operators to foreign destinations can obtain flight clearance at a day’s notice from DGCA officials at their residence on Saturday, Sunday or holidays.
So far as the proposal to allow NSOPs and aircharter firms to convert to scheduled operators is concerned, a major relief that could be considered is that the NSOPs, which are granted scheduled operators’ permit, would not attract customs duty for importing aircraft. They would be allowed to have codeshare with existing airlines or with other NSOPs, sources indicated.
