Telangana records deficit rainfall, Andhra Pradesh scanty and Rayalaseema normal
Hyderabad: The latest figures released by the India Meteorological Department clearly indicate a meteorological drought with Telangana recording a 58 per cent departure from Long Period Average, indicating a deficit rainfall, Coastal Andhra with 69 per cent departure from LPA, accounting for scanty rainfall and Rayalaseema with nine per cent departure from LPA, showing normal rainfall.
The actual rainfall recorded in all the three regions from June 1 to June 28, 2014 stands at 55.3 in Telangana, 33 in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and 60.2 in Rayalaseema. Whereas the normal recorded data is measured at 129.9 in Telangana, 98.8 in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and 60.2 in Rayalseema.
The overall seasonal rainfall of the Southern Peninsula stands at 36 per cent a departure from a Long Period Average. “This year the values have dipped to a greater negative value in both regions,” said K. Seetharam, IMD scientist.
The percentage departure is arrived at by getting the difference between the actual rainfall and the normal recorded and then getting the percent departure. This particular instance is specified to be a meteorological drought because it is measured on the standard data as measured by the data available.
