Telangana plans new Human Development index
Hyderabad: The Telangana government is coming out with a new Human Development Index that will include the pattern of development on several fronts taken up district wise.
This exercise is being undertaken after a period of seven years. The last HDI in united AP was in 2007, but failed to influence the government into launching effective initiatives. The proposals sent by the united AP government regarding several schemes were not considered and the state did not qualify for Central assistance.
“Due to changes in poverty indices drastic changes are required in the proposal. This will help to qualify for Central funding. The government will have to make drastic changes in its proposals in view of the changes in poverty indices. To qualify for Central funding, the proposals will have to be prepared afresh,” said an official of the Planning Department.
The indicators in the new HDI include life expectancy, poverty alleviation, education and infant mortality.
