LK Advani wants party MPs to explain ‘hard decisions’

Advani asked party’s first-time MPs to be 'accessible, helpful and diligent'

New Delhi: Veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani on Sunday asked the party’s first-time MPs to be “accessible, helpful and diligent” in order to become the “ideal MP in the eyes of the people”. He lavishly praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for hitting a “triple century on debut” while addressing party MPs on the second and last day of the “training session” ahead of the Budget Session.

Mr Advani said: “From day one, you should work towards becoming second-time MPs in order to bring the BJP back in power in 2019." Senior RSS leader Suresh Soni, the Sangh’s observer in the BJP and whose name has surfaced in the MPPEB scam, it is learnt, compared May 16 (the day the LS polls results were declared) with “the day the British left India”.

Referring to the “hard decisions” the PM had hinted at recently, Mr Advani asked party MPs to explain to the people why such decisions are necessary, and how they will help the nation and the common man in the long run.

Mr Modi, in his inaugural speech Saturday, asked MPs to maintain standards in public life, study hard on subjects before raising them in Parliament, remain connected with the people and their constituencies and stay away from corruption.

In his valedictory speech, Mr Advani praised Mr Modi, saying: “Kudos to Narendra Modi for a triple century on debut... Ever since we lost the election in 2004, my dream was to see the BJP comes to power again. Narendra Modi has made this dream come true.”

Mr Advani, who opposed Mr Modi’s elevation in the party, has been sidelined within the party and was kept out of the Modi Cabinet. Comparing the PM to a cricketer, Mr Advani said “In test cricket we have heard of players who score a century or a double century on their debut. But I do not know of any batsman who becomes a captain in the very first test he plays and scores a triple century. This is Narendrabhai’s unique achievement.” Mr Advani asked party workes to create a “bond” between party and people.
