15 from Andhra Pradesh feared dead in Chennai building collapse

Bodies of victims yet to be recovered

SRIKAKULAM: Fifteen persons from Srikakulam are feared dead in the building that collapsed in Chennai on Saturday. Their bodies are yet to be recovered.

So far 21 workers have been rescued from the debris.

In-charge collector G. Veera Pandyan collected details from Chennai officials and directed Palakonda RDO N. Tej Bharath to rush spot with a team of revenue staff to provide medical and other facilities to the injured and next of kin of the deceased.

“We are keeping in touch with officials at Chennai from Saturday and collecting details every hour,” Mr pandyan said. A control room has been arranged at the collectorate on 08942-225361, 96528-38181 and a toll free number, 18004256625, set up.

Naidu gives Rs 5 lakh for victims’ kin

AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced Rs 5 lakh ex gratia to Telugus who died in a building collapse in Chennai. Reviewing the mishap, he asked housing minister K. Mrinalini to take care of the injured. He directed disaster management commissioner J.C. Sharma to oversee relief operations.
