China map row: Vice President Hamid Ansari may raise the issue
New Delhi: An external affairs ministry spokesperson indicated that an Indian delegation led by Vice-President Hamid Ansari may raise the issue of China representing Arunachal Pradesh as its territory with the Chinese leadership.
Mr Ansari, is currently in China to participate in an event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Panchsheel, or five principles of peaceful coexistence.
Asked about reports of a fresh incursion by Chinese troops in the Pangong-Tso lake in the Ladakh region, the spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied the incident and merely said Indian soldiers guarding the country’s borders were capable of securing Indian territory.
Defence sources said a Chinese transgression across the Line of Actual Control takes place once every two to three days. This is because India and China have different perceptions of the LAC which is the de-facto border between the two countries in the Ladakh and Arunachal regions.
On whether Mr Ansari will raise the issue of the Chinese maps during his meetings with the Chinese leadership, the MEA spokesperson said, “It is a normal practice to raise all issues of bilateral concerns.”
China refers to Arunachal as south Tibet and considers it as Chinese territory on account of this. China is also in illegal occupation of Indian land in the Ladakh region for the past several decades.
